Ephesians 1:15-23
I, having once heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus, and the love that you show towards all the saints, have never failed to remember you in my prayers and to thank God for you. May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, give you a spirit of wisdom and perception of what is revealed, to bring you to full knowledge of him. May he enlighten the eyes of your mind so that you can see what hope his call holds for you, what rich glories he has promised the saints will inherit and how infinitely great is the power that he has exercised for us believers. This you can tell from the strength of his power at work in Christ, when he used it to raise him from the dead and to make him sit at his right hand, in heaven, far above every Sovereignty, Authority, Power, or Domination, or any other name that can be named not only in this age but also in the age to come. He has put all things under his feet and made him, as the ruler of everything, the head of the Church; which is his body, the fullness of him who fills the whole creation.

Luke 12:8-12
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘I tell you, if anyone openly declares himself for me in the presence of men, the Son of Man will declare himself for him in the presence of the angels. But the man who disowns me in the presence of men will be disowned in the presence of God’s angels. ‘Everyone who says a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. ‘When they take you before synagogues and magistrates and authorities, do not worry about how to defend yourselves or what to say, because when the time comes, the Holy Spirit will teach you what you must say.’

In quel tempo, Gesù disse ai suoi discepoli: «Io vi dico: chiunque mi riconoscerà davanti agli uomini, anche il Figlio dell’uomo lo riconoscerà davanti agli angeli di Dio; ma chi mi rinnegherà davanti agli uomini, sarà rinnegato davanti agli angeli di Dio. Chiunque parlerà contro il Figlio dell’uomo, gli sarà perdonato; ma a chi bestemmierà lo Spirito Santo, non sarà perdonato. Quando vi porteranno davanti alle sinagoghe, ai magistrati e alle autorità, non preoccupatevi di come o di che cosa discolparvi, o di che cosa dire, perché lo Spirito Santo vi insegnerà in quel momento ciò che bisogna dire».

Reflection:
The reader of Luke identifies as a follower of Jesus. One who openly declares themselves as a disciple, sent to spread the message of the goodness of God’s love. Of course, one who is sent will declare themselves and in doing so open their minds, their hearts and their will to the action of God’s Spirit in their lives. Like in the story of Ms. Ferguson, I shared yesterday.
We know the darkness of not declaring our allegiance. A police officer chasing a criminal in the USA, actually saved the man when he tried to escape over the edge of a bridge. Why? To have not done so would be unforgiveable. We know at a deep level that our own lives are not lived in separation from others. So, with us as disciples how could we act contrary to the Spirit of love that feeds us daily and guides us with unfailing love.
So, when our own hearts are aligned with the Spirit of Christ, we become a conduit for all the goodness that flows from her. We are the branches; Jesus is the vine. Cut off from him we shall wither and die, but when we abide in him, we shall live abundantly.

Il lettore di Luca si identifica come seguace di Gesù. Uno che si dichiara apertamente discepolo, inviato a diffondere il messaggio della bontà dell’amore di Dio. Naturalmente chi è inviato si dichiara e così facendo apre la sua mente, il suo cuore e la sua volontà all’azione dello Spirito di Dio nella sua vita. Come nella storia della signora Ferguson che ho condiviso ieri.
Conosciamo l’oscurità di non dichiarare la nostra fedeltà. Un agente di polizia che inseguiva un criminale negli Stati Uniti, in realtà ha salvato l’uomo quando ha cercato di fuggire oltre il bordo di un ponte. Perché? Non averlo fatto sarebbe imperdonabile. Sappiamo a livello profondo che le nostre vite non sono vissute in separazione dagli altri. Quindi con noi come discepoli come potremmo agire in contrasto con lo Spirito d’amore che ogni giorno ci nutre e ci guida con amore indefettibile.
Così, quando i nostri cuori sono allineati allo Spirito di Cristo, diventiamo un canale per tutta la bontà che scaturisce da lei. Noi siamo i tralci, Gesù è la vite. Tagliati fuori da Lui appassiremo e moriremo, ma quando restiamo in Lui, vivremo in abbondanza.
